Scripps Sports Secures Exclusive Rights to 2026 Major League Volleyball Championship

Scripps Sports has secured exclusive broadcast rights to the 2026 Major League Volleyball (MLV) Championship, marking a significant advancement for women's professional sports in the United States. The agreement designates ION, Scripps' national sports and entertainment network, as the platform for airing the league's semifinal matches on May 7, 2026, and the championship match on May 9, 2026. The host city for these events has yet to be announced.

MLV, formed from the merger of the Pro Volleyball Federation and the original Major League Volleyball, is set to launch its inaugural season in January 2026 with eight teams: Atlanta, Columbus, Dallas, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Omaha, Orlando, and San Diego. The league plans to expand to ten teams by 2027, adding franchises in Washington D.C. and Northern California.

Brian Lawlor, president of Scripps Sports, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, "Volleyball is exploding in popularity worldwide, and MLV is driving the future of professional women's volleyball in the U.S. Bringing the 2026 MLV championship to our national audience is exactly what Scripps Sports is built for – showcasing elite women athletes and their sports that inspire millions of fans."

This collaboration aligns with Scripps Sports' ongoing commitment to elevating women's sports, adding MLV to a portfolio that already includes the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).

The partnership between Scripps Sports and MLV reflects a broader trend of increasing visibility and investment in women's sports. By broadcasting the MLV championship on a national network, the agreement has the potential to attract new fans, inspire young athletes, and contribute to the growth and professionalization of women's volleyball in the United States.

This is the first time that MLV, following its formation from the merger of PVF and the original Major League Volleyball, has secured a national broadcast partnership for its championship events. The league's establishment and subsequent media deals signify a significant step forward for professional women's volleyball in the U.S.

The exclusive broadcast partnership between Scripps Sports and Major League Volleyball marks a pivotal moment for professional women's volleyball in the United States. By bringing the 2026 MLV championship to a national audience, this collaboration not only enhances the sport's visibility but also underscores the growing commitment to elevating women's athletics on prominent media platforms.
